10th October 2022
Dear Falls Creek Stakeholders,
Falls Creek Resort Management wish to advise staff, stakeholders and residents that Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) will be closing Bogong High Plains (BHP) Rd access from 12PM, Wednesday 12th October 2022. This closure will be managed by RRV personnel stationed at Mt Beauty.
The closure is due to a high risk landslip site located above Bogong Village, combined with a forecast for 80mm+ of rain over Wednesday and Thursday.
Please note the following:
- Emergency Services access to Falls Creek will remain in place where the road is safe for use.
- Local residents will be permitted to access their premises at Falls Creek. However, the recommendation is not to travel on BHP Rd unless absolutely necessary during this time.
- Worksites, schools and childcare arrangements will be changing for this week - please contact your relevant group.
- Foodworks and Post Office will remain open through until Friday per normal arrangements.
It is our strong advice that if you are able to do so, leaving Falls Creek prior to the closure on Wednesday is the safest course of action. If a landslip does occur and blocks BHP Rd, rectification and re-opening is likely to take a number of days during which time all access will be closed.
Once the rain event has finished, RRV will undertake further geotechnical stability inspections to determine if the closure can be lifted. FCRM will provide more information at this time. The current advice is the earliest re-opening date will be Monday 17th October 2022.
If you require any additional information, please contact the FCRM office on 03 5758 1200 during office hours.
