Cloud 9 Finishes Stage 2 of Major Redevelopment

Last summer, Cloud 9 finished stage 2 of it’s 3 stage redevelopment project. The final Stage is set to be completed the coming green season in time for winter 2025 and will build on Falls Creek’s reputation as one of Australia’s premium Alpine destinations.

Perched at the top of Halley’s Comet Chairlift, Cloud 9 is a vital venue here in Falls Creek offering shelter from the elements, a much-needed coffee break, ski school catering and delicious lunch, drinks and more all in this ideally situated mountain-top establishment.

Features of the Renovations

The completed stages of project saw the installation of a state-of-the-art kitchen in 2023, while the recent Summer 2023-24 saw major structural changes, including a new stone clad ramp-style entrance on the southern side of the building, significantly improving accessibility for disabled skiers and sightseers.

Additionally, a new deck overlooking the breathtaking Spion Kopje was constructed, offering panoramic views that are truly par excellence. Traverse Alpine Group (TAG), the internationally acclaimed tourism and hospitality operator based in Falls Creek, Bright and Albury-Wodonga, is responsible for the Cloud 9 redevelopment.

With hundreds of employees across its extensive hospitality venues in North-East Victoria, TAG remains committed to collaborating with local businesses, reflecting its community driven ethos. This same outlook is extended to the building of the new Cloud 9. Local firms Duggan & Hanlon Constructions, Sendit Architecture, and Kusch Consulting Engineers are among the businesses leading the project, ensuring that Cloud 9’s redevelopment remains deeply rooted in the region’s expertise, and in line with the TAG ethos of collaboration within the community.

Master Builder, Lee Duggan from Duggan & Hanlon Constructions says: “There has been a few surprises along the way and building on top of a mountain certainly has its challenges, but Cloud 9 is on track to becoming the greenest hospitality venue in the Australian snowfields utilizing sustainable and recycled materials throughout the building fabric whilst maximizing insulation values thru thermally broken windows and design to capture all that the sun can offer. Combined with state of art heat pump technology and new energy efficient kitchen equipment Cloud 9 will be leading the way to reduce reliance on fossil fuels”.
