Community Golf Day

Nothing brings people together like a good game of golf… well at least the people of Falls Creek that is! This connection event was the epitome of community-led recovery and was a testament to David Etherton and the team at the Falls Creek Tennis and Social Club who drove this event all the way to the 18th hole. $5000 from the Community Fund Scheme allowed the community to hire transport from a local bus operator, paid for green fees and other associated golf costs and provided a bite to eat for over 40 participants made up of Falls Creek business operators, staff and community members could attend the day. The day was hailed a success by all attendees and allowed the chance to recognise the hard work put in by all over the busy winter months. Social connection and community capacity building have been an area of key focus following the Bogong high Plains Road landslip event. Allowing the community the opportunity to organise an event for themselves through the subgrants program supports their autonomy and increases engagement in the event. The event also allowed the opportunity to recognise the mental health benefits of connection along with social exercise as many of the participants had also been involved in the Mountain Assistance Program, a wellbeing initiative delivered through the Community Recovery Program.
