Falls Creek Primary School Arts and Wellbeing Project
The team at Falls Creek Primary School identified the opportunity to be able to support not only the wellbeing of their students, but also the importance of a sense of pride in their school. One of the major challenges faced in the wake of the landslip event was the continual need to advocate for Falls Creek as year-round thriving community, complete with a primary school of eager learners who attend all year round. $5000 of the community Fund Scheme Through the Arts and Wellbeing project, the school hoped to showcase the school by highlighting its physical presence within the village. Working with a local Falls Creek artist, the school of 40 students were able to design an image which resonated with them and drew a connection to the natural environment in which they learn. The mindful activity of painting then provided an opportunity for the students to support their health and wellbeing. The Bogong High Plains Road landslip event resulted in the pupils experiencing a loss of access to education, to their school and to each other and this project successfully provided an avenue to explore this and reconnect the students to each other and their natural environment. This project brought the families together, afforded the students with coping tools and strategies and bolstered a school and community culture of pride and positivity.
