Falls Creek Primary School – Mountain Bike Program

Mountain biking is synonymous with Falls Creek and the Falls Creek Primary School is synonymous with adventure and connection to the opportunities which exist in Falls Creek, so it makes perfect sense that the school would support their students to gain skills and confidence to allow them to get the most out of the trails in their own back garden. Through a $4250 Community Fund Scheme grant, the 18 year-round students from the primary school are able to access minibus transport to and from Howman’s Gap where local mountain bike coaches will teach them throughout term one. This activity supports the students’ health and wellbeing, connects them with each other and connects them to their natural environment. The Bogong High Plains Road landslip event detrimentally impacted the students, through the disconnect which occurred between each other and between the students and their surroundings. Activities such as this mountain bike program offer the opportunity to spend time together, being active and outdoors through a program which aligns with the values and principals of both the Falls Creek Primary School and effective recovery strategies.
